COVID-19 ANNOUNCEMENT:
Peace and grace to you from Jesus Christ.
I come to you with an update on the corona virus and our church’s response to it. Today we saw widespread cancellations of every kind of event imaginable and this afternoon, I received an e‑mail form Bishop Hope Morgan Ward strongly urging all United Methodist Churches to suspend worship services and activities at our churches and within our congregations for the next 2 weeks. The Bishop did this in response to a request from public health officials for these cancellations.
After consulting with leaders in the church, some of whom also serve in the health services, the worship committee and with other pastors, we have decided that it is in the best interest of our community and those among us who are most at risk to follow the Bishop’s lead in this matter. So, we will cancel our worship services and activities at the church for the next two weeks and hope that progress will be made in developing vaccines and treatments for this virus during these two weeks.
In the meantime, the worship Committee and the Communications Committee are working on ways to share the sermon on Sunday mornings and information to keep everyone apprised of the situation. We will let you all know as soon as we know exactly how we are going to do that.
Some may feel that this is an over reaction but according to health officials, if we wait until it is obvious that this is what we should have done, it will be too late to curtail the spread of COVID-19 and many more people will be put at risk.
I know that this is a difficult situation for us all, but I remind you that God is with us and we will get through this and I truly believe that all will be well.
Also please be aware that some of our folks might feel isolated, fearful and perhaps helpless so we request that everyone in the church try to stay in contact with others through text or email or phone calls.
We will make other information available as soon as we know more. Until then, please take care of yourselves and each other and be safe!
In the Name of Christ,
Pastor Donald
