Grace and peace to you in the name of Jesus Christ.
As we continue to learn more about the expansive destruction from Hurricane Sandy, especially to our Northern neighbors, North Carolina Conference United Methodist Men are learning about assistance needed in our coastal areas. We give thanks for the preparations of the United Methodist Men, who lead us in the first response in the wake of disaster.
Please keep in your prayers all who have been impacted by the storm. Early response teams are asked to respond where needed. Early response needs in North Carolina will be listed on the conference website, nccumc.org, and the UMM website, nccumm.org.
Local churches, other groups, or individuals can be part of immediate assistance in two ways: 1) Local churches, others groups and individuals can be part of immediate assistance to individuals suffering from the storm destruction by donating to UMCOR US Disaster Response. Once on the site, select Hurricanes 2012 from the drop-down menu label. Donations can also be made by placing a check in the Sunday offering plate. Checks can be made payable to the NC Conference or to the local church but be sure to write “Hurricane 2012, Advance #3021787” in the memo line.100% of donations will be used for hurricane relief. and,
2) By collecting supplies and assembling cleaning buckets. The United Methodist Committee on Relief website lists the contents for cleaning buckets, as well as a video on assembling the buckets. Assembled buckets can be delivered to the 3MC warehouse, 676 Community Drive, Goldsboro.
With gratitude for the ministry we share in Christ,
Bishop Hope Morgan Ward
